The Hitchhiker (chapter 1)

I was on my way home from
a party one cold, dark, stormy night.
It was around 1:30 in the morning.
I had a long, hard day at work.
I was trying to get home,
before the storm got worse.

I usually ride along with a friend,
but she called in sick.
The rain was coming down very hard.
I was having a hard time seeing
the road ahead of me.
The highway was a dead calm.

I saw a gas station up ahead.
The gas tank was almost on empty.
I pulled into the gas station.

Me: "Fill it up."

Attendent: "Yes, ma'am."

As the gas station attendent
was filling up the tank,
I decided to go into the store
and get a pack of smokes.
