The Hitchhiker (chapter 5)

I usually don't pick up strangers,
but I didn't like seeing anybody
walking in a thunder and lightning storm either.
I decided to stop and pick
the stranger up.
I was a little nervous
about doing this.

I honked the horn
and pulled over to the shoulder.
The stranger opened the door.
It was the man from the
gas station.
He kinda freaked me out a bit.
I tried to pretend I wasn't scared.

Man: "Hello."

Me: "Hello."

Man: "Could you give me a lift?"

Me: "Um, I don't know
if I should."

Man: "Well, if you don't do
this kind of thing,
you don't have to."

Me: "I usually don't do this kind
of thing, but I don't like seeing
anybody getting caught in a storm
with nowhere to take cover."

Man: "Are you sure you don't mind?"

Me: "No, I don't mind at all."

Man: "By the way, what's your name?"

I was hesitant to even say
what my name was at first.

Me: "Um, what's yours?"

Man: "My name is Tony."

Me: "Nice to meet you Tony.
My name is Cynthia."

Tony: "Nice to meet you too Cynthia."
