The Hitchhiker (chapter 10)
I woke up hearing the voices
of my children screaming at eachother.
The babysitter was still sound
asleep on the couch.
I looked at my watch.
It was 7:30 in the morning.
I was starting to wonder why
the children were acting
the way they were.
Maybe they figured I wasn't home yet.
I threw the blanket on the floor,
slowly got up off the chair
and headed toward the kitchen.
I filled the coffee pot
and turned it on.
I went upstairs to the bedroomes.
Stephanie, my oldest daughter,
was screaming at her younger siblings.
Cynthia: "What's going on?
Stephanie: "I'm tired, Robin and Bret keep talking."
Cynthia: "You can go into my room
if you think you can get some peace."
Stephanie: "They wouldn't stay in their
beds long enough for me to
get back to sleep."
Cynthia: "Yawn."
Stephanie: "What time did you get
home last night mom?"
Cynthia: "It doesn't matter
what time I got home."
Robin: "Can we have breakfast now?"
Cynthia: "It's too early in the
morning for you to have breakfast."
Bret: "I'm hungry."
Cynthia: "You can have breakfast in a couple
more hours."
Stephanie: "Yawn, I'm not hungry
yet anyway."
Cynthia: "Robin and Bret, you two go
back to your own rooms
and go back to bed."
Stephanie: "Thanks mom."
Cynthia: "You're welcome."
Robin and Bret went back to
their rooms and went back to bed.
I went back downstairs,
to the kitchen,
to get my coffee.
