Drowning (part 5)

The others headed back down toward the water.
As I waited on the beach for Jennifer,
she finally brought the car to a halt,
left the headlights on
and got out.
I had alot of doubt in my mind,
about going for a dip in the water.

"Come on in, the water's nice and warm," yelled out Michelle.

I stood by the waterside and pondered,
(should I or shouldn't I)?
Jennifer went in without me.
I backed away from the water.
I turned around and went to the car.

I opened the door to the car
and hopped into the driver's seat.
I just sat there and
watched my friends having fun.
They didn't know my fear.
I have never told them.
I couldn't, I wouldn't.
I was afraid of what they
would think of me, if I did.

As all was still and quiet,
I heard rustling in the trees behind me.

"Who's there?" I called out.

There was no answer.
The goosebumps began to
run up my spine,
as they did once before.
I became very agitated and figity.
I felt the butterflies in
my stomach come alive.
