Drowning (part 7)

I looked out over the water
and saw something floating on top.
My greatest fear, had come alive.
I knew what it was.
I had to look away.
I had to leave the site,
to clear my head.
I found a log
and rested upon it.

I was looking around
and happened to notice,
a tree nearby with broken branches.
I got up off the log,
brushed myself off,
wiped the tears from my swollen eyes
and walked over to the tree.
The leaves on the ground,
were piled up.
I was afraid to move the leaves aside,
to reveal what was underneath.

I knelt down,
brushed the leaves aside and
found a hand.
I felt my heart breaking in two,
as I cleared away more leaves.
I saw the face of my friend Jennifer.
She was dead.
I felt a hand touch my shoulder.
I turned around and
saw a dark masked man.

He grabbed my arm and
proceeded to drag me to the water.
I was kicking and screaming,
but there wasn't a soul in sight,
to hear my tearful screams.
