Helpless

He would come home every night
after being at the bar,
she was always
scared for her life,
she didn't know what to do.

She had kids with him
she was frightened for them,
she was helpless
she didn't have any family,
some died, others moved away.

She had to fend for herself
he would beat her
black and blue,
but she couldn't
understand why.

Maybe it was because,
he didn't love her anymore
she was helpless
day and night,
one night he was out late
she went into town
that day and
bought a gun.

She wasn't helpless
anymore she had
to do something
about the abuse,
he walked through the door,
he raised his hand,
ready to abuse again,
she aimed the gun
for his chest
and blew him away.

The police sirens
rang in the distance,
she dropped the gun
on the floor,
tired of the abuse
she sat down and cried,
the police came
knocking on the door,
she was put in handcuffs
and she was carted
off to jail,
feeling helpless once again.
