The children sit
in the house,
waiting for their parents
to come home,
their stomachs are empty,
their feet are cold,
the cupboards are bare
and they have no
shoes for their feet.

Their little hearts
are broken in two,
as they sit and wonder
if their parents
even care about them.

Hours later,
their parents walk
through the door,
with shopping bags
filled with new clothes.

Tears swell in
the children's eyes,
when they see
there is nothing for them.

The children have
to go another day,
with an empty stomach
and no shoes on their feet.
