Dear Heart

Dear Heart,

I know you're aching,
The pain goes deep inside,
You see, I'm trying to talk to you,
To ease your wounded pride,
I know that you're not broken,
You keep a steady beat,
Until, that is, that other half,
Perchance you come to meet,
And then you shout much louder,
The message sound and clear,
I can almost hear you singing,
There's pounding in my ear,
And yes, I'm trying to tell you,
It's such a waste of time,
For the one that you have chosen,
Is not destined to be mine,
He may well choose another,
And simply walk away,
Do you have the wherewithal,
To make him want to stay,
And then, Dear Heart,
What will you do,
You're just not making sense,
I've tried to find another,
To give you recompense,
And yet, you do not listen,
You're trying to rule my head,
I fear a constant battle,
Till one of us is dead.
