Lost Love

I just read a collection of poems,
From a man who was baring his soul,
His heart poured out on the pages,
This man who was only half whole.

His true love he'd won and then lost her,
To another who'd come on the scene,
He did what he could to forget her,
But relived his impossible dream.

He thought about her every morning,
And every day throughout his life,
It was sad because she also loved him,
But she wasn't the one, who's his wife.

So he carried his life on without her,
And he saw her again now and then,
Each time increasing their ardour,
But sadly, remaining just friends.

There's a moral in this man's sad story,
When love reaches out to caress,
Don't let it slip right through your fingers,
And don't settle for anything less.
