I Loved You Then

My minds in instant replay,
Some seven years before,
I turn my head and watch you,
Walking through a door,

You enter slowly, swiftly,
Scary, wild and free,
And reaching, eyes beseeching,
You gave your soul to me,

I ask now, did it happen?
I wonder when and how,
I get to the heart of the matter,
I loved you then, I love you now.

The truth so gently dawns on me,
Like early morning light,
That I can't be with someone new,
For with you it felt so right.

I never quite got over,
The intensity of your love,
And I would gladly die for you,
I swear, to God above.

So I live my life without you,
And to you I do avow,
I write these words to tell you,
I loved you then, I love you now.
