A Child At Play

I love the simple things in life,
Which happen, day to day,
But there is no greater pleasure,
Than to watch a child at play.

A cardboard box, discarded,
Becomes a place to hide,
A secret destination,
On a magic carpet ride.

It's now a crystal palace,
A place for the elite,
She lives there with the King and Queen,
And servants at her feet.

Transformed now, it's a pirate ship,
She sails the seven seas,
She's now a great explorer,
Fights the raging storm with ease.

Another transformation,
The child is now a star,
Smiling at the paparazzi,
From the safety of her car.

An old discarded cardboard box,
Is her castle in the sky,
The child now has her baby doll,
And she sings a lullaby.

I'm held in fascination,
I'm with her all the way,
I've shared her special journey,
For I watched a child at play.
