The Robin

I need you now to be so strong for me,
Now winter sets to follow summer's fall.
I cannot be just where I want to be,
Red-breasted robin finally to comes to call,
The end is coming to another year,
The red, red robin sings his winter's song,
I look at him with sadness and with fear,
For cold dark winter days, and nights so long,
The robin unconcerned, he fails to see,
That his apparent joy now leaves me cold,
He sits upon a berry-laden tree,
With not a passing thought of growing old.

Perhaps, he thinks he came to compensate,
For love that came too little and too late.
