Another Day Gone

I gaze out from my window,
To the dampened streets below,
Deprived of moonlight serenade,
The streetlight casts its glow,

The atmosphere is heavy,
The clouds are pressing down,
But all is calm and peaceful,
In this sleepy little town,

And gentle rain is falling,
It glistens on the trees,
I hear no sound of mocking birds,
Or busy bumble bees,

The darkness signals home time,
And curtains tightly drawn,
Some happy, some regretful,
That another day is gone.
