 Wagon Train

It was that fateful day, With the sun looking
At them, as they rode away, they wanted to farm the land
For them and their families, They wanted only the best,
To have their own land, They were going west,
~
It was understood, take the minimum of belongings you could
Put them, into these wagons of cloth and wood
It was a long and hard grueling trip, what with the winds, the heat and the rains
These people would have to bear it all, and don't forget the Indians waiting, on the plains
~
There were women and kids too, most were families, but some were not
And this is where I will introduce you; things were not as they appear to be
There was this girl; she was very tender you see
Kept very quiet, about everything, especially about her lover
~
She waited till long after dark, this love no one was allowed to see
She slipped from her wagon she and her lover together every night,
This love burned so bright
Some say it was love, and it just wasn't right
~
This love between the lovers, in the middle of the night
Gawd they say she had a fire,
A intensity and desire
And then one day, in the middle of the night
~
The Indians came to burn, to pilage, they say
These two got caught that night it was very bright,
This hidden love affair, of all the fires burning that night
One could not be put out, and kept its light
~
The love affair had the hottest spark
Gave off nothing but a warmth, and a pure light
She loved her true; she had this love,
This lovely dame on the plains, that night
~
She would never let her go
She wasn't afraid, and showed no fright
She was beautiful in everyway
The dame on the plains
~
Until now she been meek and mild
But that night she was a woman, she was wild
She fought the Indians all night long
The dame on the plains, was no longer a child
~
She had fought and fought with all her might
The dame on the plains that night
She had proved herself and all was right
~
