 An Angel In My Arms

It was at lunch

She sat there looking prim and proper

She ate grapes by the bunch

~

Reminded me

Of a trip to Africa

So staid was she

~

She told of the double stacked bus

And how she had been traveling

Animals and people all together, she did fuss

~

She used a cane

To get about

She was in some pain

~

But that was all she said

About her trip to lion country

Before she dropped her head

~

Poor dear was plum tuckered out

I wanted to laugh

I wanted to yell and shout

~

Instead I had a big grin

Took a breath

And softly giggled again

~

She was so funny

So innocent, I am sure

They called her sunny

~

She raised her head

Said what? I don't

Her eyes plead

~

I helped her to my room

She was lovely

Inhaling her perfume

~

I kissed her soft about her face

I gently laid her down

Told her she could stay at my place

~

I watched her as she slept,

Her eyes seem

As if she wept

~

I turned out the light

I held her tight

I held an angel in my arms tonight
