Dunvegan Castle is the ancestral home
Of the Macleod of Macleod,
It stands tall
And it stands proud.

On the Isle of Skye
Overlooks the river banks,
It's said to have
A magic flag.

King Harald Hardrada of Norway
Invaded England in 1066,
He decided to stay
As he bought a Russian princess.

His children, concubines and all his treasure
Including a huge gold nugget,
It had taken
16 men to carry it.

He fought a battle
Against the King of England,
The men fought hard
To defend their native land.

King Harald Hardrada
Fought long and hard,
He didn't ever
Let down his guard.

When he died
His throat was pierced by an arrow,
The fall of his army
Must have been through much sorrow.

The Magic flag
Was bloodstained and placed over his face,
So he wouldn't see his army being defeated
He would have been so disgraced.

There is a legend that's been passed down
That every ten years at midnight in midsummer,
The King of the fairies and all his court
Come to view the flag and woe-betide mortals spying on them undercover.

I've been wanting to write about this for a long time. A little about my Scottish History.
