Twas' On A Moonlit Evening

Twas' on a moonlit evening,
The night was still and bright,
When Mr. Jones, he came upon,
A lady of the night.

She beckoned him towards her,
And plied him with her charms,
But Mr. Jones, he stood aghast,
And somewhat quite alarmed.

Excuse me ma'am, but do you know,
Your petticoat's undone,
Allow me please to cover you,
For I'm the vicar's son.

He offered her his jacket,
She'd never seen the like,
She said, pray tell me, what's your name,
And he told her it was Mike.

She asked him “would you like to come,
And spend some time with me,
And if you don't have a shilling,
Then the first time it's for free”.

Now Mr. Jones was innocent,
The first night in these parts,
And ne'er before, he'd come across,
A lady with such heart.

He told her he had spent his life,
In the jungles of Peru,
She realised poor Mr. Jones,
Just didn't have a clue.

And taking pity on him,
Hailed a hansom cab, in fact,
And sent him safely on his way,
His modesty intact.
