Whispering

He speaks my name in whispers,
So quiet, I do not hear,
Sees something in the shadows,
That only he can see,
He touches souls and broken hearts,
That only love may heal,
He listens to a soulful song,
Now distant and surreal,

He plays a part to all accounts,
Disguised his soul so well,
For no one really knows him,
There are secrets he won't tell,
They live amongst his shadows,
Like a demon in the dark,
He knows too well within his heart,
That love has left its mark,

And so he hides in shadows,
He steels himself away,
Unprepared to take a gamble,
Preferring night to day,
He lights a penny candle,
And flickers in the flame,
The flame too casts a shadow,
Is it whispering her name?
