And The Band Played On

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I thought about you today,
Not sure what brought you to mind,
It might have been my usual Sunday walk to the park,
My quiet time spent away from here,
And this demanding machine that constantly craves my touch,
Ever eager in its response to me,

You meet all sorts in the park,
Strangers who smile at the perceived kindred-ship,
Like minded souls wandering through the glen,
Children and dogs at heel,
Braving the cold eastern wind,
Exchanging pleasantries en route.

It was deceiving today,
Caught out by the cold,
My hands stuffed into my pockets,
The long winding path before me,

A man caught my eye as he strolled ahead of me,
I think he reminded me of you,
The way he held his head,
The pseudo arrogant gait,
He looked like you ….

I hadn't thought about you,
Not for a while,
But here you were,
Larger than life and so close in thought,
I could smell your skin,
My hands on your chest,
Faces almost,
But not quite,
Touching,
And lost,
So lost,
In one another's eyes,

And for a fleeting moment,
I knew your love again,
Oh, how we danced …

And the band played on …..
