Drowning

This is dedicated to a man I never knew whom I'm unlikely ever to meet again, who miraculously appeared to save me from drowning, then disappeared before I could thank him. To that man, whoever and wherever he is, I am eternally grateful.

Please help, I'm going under,
I'm falling, sinking fast,
I cannot fight the current,
This ocean is too vast,

I'm in a sea of turmoil,
Been tossed against the throng,
I try to hang on in there,
The current is too strong,

I try to reach the surface,
Why can't they see me here?
I have no fight left in me,
I'm set to disappear,

I'm very well aware now,
Two thousand miles from home,
That time has finally passed me by,
And I am here, alone,

I take a final breath now,
And send my last goodbye,
A sense of peace comes on me,
I'm ready now to fly,

I close my eyes, prepare myself,
To let it slip away,
My life now flashing by me,
And I guess, it was Okay,

And somewhere in the distance,
I'm aware of two strong hands,
They're coming now to raise me up,
And take me to dry land,

~~~~~~~~~
I heard you speak a language,
I didn't comprehend,
I recognized that you were French,
Where are you now, my friend?
I never got to thank you,
For what you did that day,
I looked around and you were gone,
I watched you swim away.
