Stage Fright

You enjoyed being in the choir
With all of your friends at school,
As being your mother
I thought it was pretty cool.

You and your friends
Were getting ready for the concert,
You look like an angel
In your white blouse and black skirt.

Off to the Empty Stocking Fund
You go,
On this Saturday afternoon looking at the parents and children
Rushing around to and fro.

"Walk faster I don't want you to be late,"
I said to you,
You finally caught up got you in
Your spot where you were supposed to.

You and your friends
Were ready to go on
Off you go to be on
Television for the first time.

You got upset and scared
Because it was your first time,
I took you aside
Walked you away from the line.

"I'm too scared to go on,"
You said,
With tear filled eyes
This is what I had dread.

I let your
Music teacher know,
"It's ok,"she said
"You can take her home."
