Have We Met?

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I watched him walk in through the door,
He asked me, “Have we met before”?
I smiled and nodded in reply,
And traveled back to years gone by,

To seventeen, still immature,
And unprepared for love's allure,
Oh, how he made my knees go weak,
And dumbstruck then, I couldn't speak,

I hung on to his every word,
Not eating, sleeping, how absurd,
And living only for the chance,
For me to rate a second glance,

Now three decades and more have passed,
And here we are, alone at last,
His hair once dark, now silver grey,
Yet still, he makes me want to stay,

To stay just for a little while,
Recall a long remembered smile,
The smile still travels to his eyes,
And love, resplendent in disguise,

We sat and talked an hour or more,
Said things we should have said before,
We spoke of how things might have been,
If fate had failed to intervene,

And so we bid a fond farewell,
To first and last love, who can tell?
I cannot eat, or sleep, or speak,
Oh, how, he made my knees go weak.
