In The Distance

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The years were long, spent in the dark glen,
Where, in the shadow of the great mountains,
No light shone,
And no warmth permeated the gloom,

For many years I remained,
Tethered by torment,
And shackled by shame,
Casting my eyes only to the shadows,
I took my comfort from the rain,

In the distance and high above,
There was light,
I watched from the deep valley,
The clouds pass over the great mountain,
Allowing the distant sun to shine its light,

Life in my dark, deep, valley,
Was loveless,
Cold and bitter winds of despair,
Dampened what was once a fiery heart,
How I yearned for the passion,
Life had so cruelly denied me,
I longed to leave the valley,
And climb that great distant tor,
Yet fear, held me in its grip,

Courage called one fateful day,
Was it faith or madness that overruled fear?
I stood tall and defiant,
And I walked through the valley,
Leaving the shadows of the past behind,

Ahead, there stood the mountain,
No longer cold and dark,
But light and vibrant and glorious green,
Daring me to smile,
And taste my sweet freedom again.
