Baby Doe

The sounds of a baby cry
As I watched his mommy walk by
All alone in his little crib
A name I see as Baby Doe

The ache in my heart
As I hear him cry
I just don't understand...
So I just ask why?

A teenage mom,just walks away
Her head held down
And no turning around...
To see what she's leaving behind

With tears in her eyes
And a touch of his soft skin
A gentle kiss on his chin
I felt the pain,as she left him

How could a mother walk away
After carrying him nine months...
From a week today ?

I picked him up
And held him close
And whispered in his ear...
"Just close your eyes
And sleep my dear
Cause your momma is
Gonna get you out of here"!

As the tears began to fall
I closed my eyes to pray
I heard someone saying...
"Momma's here to take you home
Your name is Mary Ellen
Not Baby Doe" !
